Two years ago, Mercedes Retamozo joined FS Event Staffing and quickly became known for her calm leadership and sharp eye for detail. Now serving as a Captain, she thrives in the energy of fast-paced events where no two days are the same.

From the very beginning, every event has left its mark. “All events have been very memorable,” Mercedes says, reflecting on how each one has shaped her experience and perspective. It’s not just the variety of venues or guests that makes the job stand out—it’s the people she works alongside.

For Mercedes, teamwork is what transforms a good event into a great one. “Working with a team makes the event experience more enjoyable. When everyone respects each other’s roles, it creates a positive atmosphere where ideas can flourish.” As Captain, she ensures that respect and collaboration are at the heart of every shift.

Of course, leadership comes with its own challenges, and Mercedes has learned to master the art of juggling priorities. Whether it’s a last-minute change, guest coordination, or keeping setup on track, she has developed a knack for staying focused and making quick decisions. “Managing multiple tasks is essential in the fast-paced event environment. I’ve learned to prioritize effectively, making sure everything is handled smoothly.”

Looking ahead, Mercedes is eager to deepen her knowledge by returning to school for hospitality studies. Her commitment to growth mirrors the same dedication she brings to the floor—always looking for ways to improve, learn, and lead.

Outside of events, Mercedes has another challenge on the horizon: she’s training for a half marathon in January 2026, with her sights set on eventually crossing the finish line at the NYC Marathon. Just like in her work, she’s motivated by progress, perseverance, and setting ambitious goals.
